"Bringing it to the next level"

Award winning editor Barry McMann’s passion for music, photography and film led him to the Niagara College Film program where he graduated with Honours and student awards aplenty. His graduate film led him to The World Film Festival in Montreal and festivals in Europe. He then worked in various departments of commercial production before settling into the editing world. "Working production gave me a great insight into the commercial agency and production relationship. The respect shown and love of the business inspired me to have a greater part in the creative process."

McMann then joined creative editorial boutique Third Floor Editing under the wing of editing guru Richard Unruh. There he worked his way into the editing chair and was soon cutting spots for Bank of Montreal, Bell, Coke and many others. Highlights include the massive Ford "Goodbye Hello" out of JWT. The spot featured songstress Charlotte Church and was the first two minute Global Roadblock in the history of advertising. Not many editors can claim to have a spot in the Guinness World Book of Records but it is there. "Goodbye Hello" earned Barry a Best Editing award at the International Monitor Awards and the spot brought home a whole lot of hardware for the agency.

Other spots featured on the current real include the Cannes shortlisted Madd "Saturday Night" from Saatchi & Saatchi and Lubriderm "Delores" helmed by Tony Kaye out of JWT which earned him a craft award for editing at the Bessies (Canada’s Clios).

In 2003 Barry left Third Floor Editing ("it was eleven years after all") to work freelance under The Barman Film Co. banner. " I have the ability to work in several facilities here in Toronto or in the U.S and Europe depending on the agencies’ preference."

"I just love the process of getting the film and letting it unfold, telling me where to go and then shaping it into a product that accomplishes the goals of the creative, bringing it to the next level and then working with the team to take it even higher."
